Live Trip Updates – September 1, 2014

TL-30-438: Today, the group had an exiting day in the desert. They started the day before dawn and climbed Masada to see the beautiful sunrise over the Israeli desert from the top. After a quick breakfast at the bottom of the mountain, the group traveled to Ein Gedi to walk the Nahal David path to the desert oasis. Next, they floated in the Dead Sea at Ein Bokek Beach. The group enjoyed covering themselves with mud and floating in the salty water. Afterwards, the group headed towards the Bedouin tents to spend the night. Upon arrival, they took their much awaited camel ride through the Negev. Then, they learned about Bedouin hospitality and enjoyed an authentic Bedouin style dinner. They finished the night relaxing around a campfire.

TL-30-440: The group had a somber day in Jerusalem today. They started by visiting Yad Vashem, Israel’s Holocaust Museum and Memorial. Next, they toured Har Herzl National Memorial. At these sites, the group learned a great deal about Israel and the history of the Jewish people. Afterwards, the group left Jerusalem and departed south for the Israeli desert, or Negev. They will spend the night overnight in the city of Arad.

TL-30-441: This morning, the group began their day with a visit to Yad Vashem, Israel’s Holocaust Museum and Memorial. After lunch, the group then traveled to Har Herzl National Memorial for a tour. It was a powerful and emotional day for the entire group. Afterward, they left Jerusalem and headed south into the Israeli desert, where they will spend the next two nights.

TL-30-443: Today, the group got the chance to explore Tel Aviv! They began the day by welcoming in several Israeli peers who will be joining the trip for the next few days. Then, they all traveled to downtown Tel Aviv to visit Rabin Square, memorial to former Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin. Afterward, they visited Independence Hall. Then the group had free time to walk around and enjoy the beautiful Tel Aviv beach. At the end of the day they traveled to the city of Arad, in the Israeli desert, to stay the night.

TL-30-444: The group spent the day in Tel Aviv today. They started by visiting Rabin Square, a memorial to former Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin. Then, they visited Independence Hall. In the afternoon, the group received free time to relax on the beautiful Mediterranean beaches. Afterwards, they left the city and headed into the Israeli desert to the city of Arad.

TL-30-445: The group arrived in Israel today after a long journey. Upon arrival at Ben Gurion airport, they met their Israeli tour guide, loaded the bus, and began their drive north. At the hotel, the group got settled in and enjoyed their first group dinner. The group will be combining with another Israel Outdoors group, TL-30-446, for the reminder of the trip in order to increase their size. Both groups finished the evening playing icebreakers and doing program introductions.

TL-30-446: The group landed in Ben Gurion airport in Israel today. Once each participant retrieved their bag, the group met their Israeli tour guide, and departed north. At the hotel, the group enjoyed their first Israeli meal and finished the night with icebreakers and introductions. At the hotel the group was also joined by Israel Outdoors group TL-30-445, who will be combined with the group for the remainder of the trip.
