TL-30-408 and TL-30-409: It’s time to get ready for shabbat! This group visited Mahane Yehuda, Jerusalem’s largest open-air market, and got to witness firsthand as the residents of Jerusalem shopped and prepared for shabbat. They will be spending shabbat in Jerusalem and will be able to see the stillness that overcomes the city as the entire city shuts down for shabbat.
TL-30-410: The group spent the morning in reflection at the Kotel, or Western Wall, where they placed personal notes in the Kotel’s ancient stones. This was followed by a walking tour of the Old City of Jerusalem. In the afternoon they too visited the Mahane Yehuda market. They are looking foward to spending shabbat together in Jerusalem.
TL-30-411 and TL-30-412: This group spent the morning at the ancient archeological community of Tzipori in Northern Israel. They then headed Southward to Jerusalem where they were joined by a number of Israelis who will be traveling with the group for the next 5 days. Together the Americans and Israelis also headed over to Machane Yehuda market and are looking forward to getting to know each other over shabbat.
TL-30-413: The group’s schedule was be jam packed today exploring Tzfat, a beautiful northern city and the birthplace of Jewish mysticism. In Tzfat, the group learned about Kabbalah, an esoteric method, discipline, and school of thought within Judaism. They also toured the city’s historic synagogues, witnessed presentations by mystic and glass-blowing artists, and toured the city’s local art scene. Currently, they are washing up and preparting for their first Shabbat in Israel!
TL-30-414 and TL-30-415: This group started off their trip with a bang by also visiting the city of Tzfat. In Tzfat, they learned about Jewish history, walked around, had some free time to visit the candle making factory, and drank fresh pomegranate juice. Then the group went to Ascent to learn more about Kaballah and listen to Klezmer music. After the visit they had time for lunch on their own and ate some yummy falafel and spent some time shopping in Tzfat before heading back to Tberias to get ready for shabbat.
