With the exception of one meal a day, this trip is entirely free, including round-trip airfare from a variety of gateway airports – in other words, you can think of Birthright Israel trips as a ~$5,000 gift. The goal of this remarkable initiative is neither political nor religious in nature. It is simply to give young adults with a Jewish background the chance to explore their identity in the land of Israel and form new friendships along the way.

Although most travel solo, going with friends is a great way to enrich your experience! Getting placed on the same trip takes some coordinating, and you'll definitely want to make sure that you and your friends both choose Israel Outdoors as your Birthright Israel trip organizer and select the same trip dates when you register. In a nutshell, you're eligible for a Birthright Israel trip if you are age 18-26 and meet Birthright Israel's Jewish background criteria. Additionally, you must have already graduated from high school by the time of the trip, and cannot be attending a full-time Jewish studies program. Finally, this must be your first Jewish peer trip to Israel since turning 18. Learn more about the eligibility rules and contact us for additional clarification.

Birthright Israel is a supervised experience with safety as our guiding consideration for 25 years. We travel as a group on a private coach bus, accompanied by a professional tour educator, two support staff members, and at least one licensed armed guard trained in first aid. Our trip itineraries are carefully designed and approved/monitored by a special "Situation Room" in coordination with Israel's security authorities. Throughout the trip, you will be traveling in a group setting. Along the way, you'll be provided with independent time to explore an area on your own. This usually takes place during lunch times, scheduled self-exploration opportunities, and nights out. During nights planned out, you may use taxis within city limits.

Trips will continue so long as we are confident in being able to provide you with a safe, meaningful, and joyous experience in Israel. If we are not confident in meeting that standard, we will not hesitate to postpone till better times. If the conditions change while you are traveling, we will adjust our itinerary and approach as needed. Yes, you can still extend your stay according to the airline terms, and you will be solely responsible for yourself after the Birthright Israel program has concluded.
